PFM means Porcelain Fused Metal.  It means there is metal to support porcelain.  This is the most common restoration placed on the oral cavity.  The technique of PFM crown & bridge has been used since 1930.  There are several types of PFM crown & bridge.

Porcelain fused metal crowns & bridges have been applied in the mouth for a very very long time.  It is very strong and a long lasting wear and tear property.  It also can be applied anywhere in the mouth.
